One of the many problems in the past have been capasity. We no longer have to empty the trash everyday! And it holds up to the kids test. It's been 2 months and it still works! I especially like the hydrolic dropping lid and foot pedal that is still working!

I paid around $200 for it and at the time, I thought to myself, I can't believe I'm spending so much on a trash can. But 7 years later, I'm so thankful I did. The touchbin has broken twice by just normal wear and tear, but both times it happened, I simply went on line to the Brabantia website and requested a replacement lid. The problem with these items is that they are made to work for a year, then die off. Does this sound familiar? You have to take the attitude that they are expendable, and you will have to replace them - otherwise, it would get 5 stars - my experience is that a handy person can't fix them.

(More customer reviews)Let me first comment on the end product: This is a very high quality pull-out waste basket system that is meant to be installed in an open cabinet with either an existing hinged door or an attached door. I had to do a little bit of research on rev-a-shelf.com to be sure that I was buying the model that fits my cabinet, since the descriptions here on amazon are less than adequate. So be sure to cross-reference the model number with their website to ensure you are buying the right model. Further, I had to do a little research to find a model that can be used to replace my old pull out system with my old cabinet door. Rest assured, the model I am reviewing can be used for exactly that purpose. Be aware because some of the rev-a-shelf models are made only for swing out doors and are not meant to be attached to a door as this model is. Also, although it looks like this model comes with a door, it only includes the inner system itself and it is meant to be attached to an existing cabinet door. It also comes with two very nice trash bins, all packaged neatly and safely together. When all is said and done, this is a very sturdy and attractive set that looks and feels to be of very high quality. The operation is smooth and the system features an "automatic" closing feature that will literally close the drawer for you once you get it within about an inch or so of its destination. This is kind of hard to describe, but if you go try out any new drawer or cabinet at your local showroom that has this feature, you'll know immediately that you want it. And this system features it for relatively little money. Overall, you will definitely be happy with your purchase when all is said and done.
OK, so now that all the minor details of having picked the right model are sorted out, we can move onto the business of installing the thing. Unfortunately, like most projects, this is not quite as easy as it looks. The package does include some very nice illustrated instructions with templates that can be used to make the installation a little easier. But there are a few problems that you may encounter along the way. The first is that there are no written instructions - only illustrations. This may not seem like much of a problem at first, until you actually try to follow along with the thing. I'm honestly still not certain that I covered every step because there are a few illustrations that I simply could not understand. Secondly, the installation requires a flat surface from front to back - meaning, if your cabinet has a "lip" at the front, like many do, you will have to make some modifications. In my case, I went out and bought some 1/4" strip and raised the entire installation up past the lip. It all came out fine, but it did add some steps that I wasn't expecting. Finally, the templates, although useful, were not the easiest to use, mostly because the close proximity of the fold marks to the edge of the paper made it difficult to maintain straight fold lines. Because of this, I was forced to measure more than the instructions would imply - which is probably not a bad thing, but, again, added time that I didn't think I would have to incur.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. My old system broke down and this is a very welcomed DIY upgrade. But I do have to deduct one star for the installation - not because it was incredibly difficult, but just because it was more difficult than it had to be - and, more importantly, more difficult than they said it would be.

If you don't pull out the can by gripping it in a specific way and pull a specific way, it sticks and you have to jerk it out. Also, it is not very sturdy and the can is not as substantial as I was expecting. It is rather flimsy compared to another brand my daughter bought at the same time.

(More customer reviews)I actuall purchased this at Lowes after finsing out that it cost the sam there as it does here and I didn't have to pay the shipping fees. I love it! It was very easy to install and the ball bearings on the chrome model are super smooth and good quality. The 35 quart bins are included and bit snugly into the wire holder so theres not alot of movement. They're quite secure. I was also looking at some of the models that are top and bottom mounted with the wood holders but don't waste your money. This quite sturdy. I purchased the door mounting kit to give it a more built in feel and it's awesome! The cans are a little hard to get out but we put a trash bag inside anyway so that's not a problem. The sliders come all the way out of the cabinet so you don't have to rach inside. This model fits an 18 inch cabinet or one side of a 36 inch wide cabinet. The 27 quart model is for a 15 inch cabinet. It doesn't specify here so just thought that might be helpful.

It is a poor quality, non-durable, double-prong plastic latch. It just doesn't look durable enough to withstand the constant opening/closing needed for a trash can. For the price, we expected something long-lasting. Now we have a trash can without a lid, not the greatest thing to have with little ones running around.

(More customer reviews)This is a ceramic container about 9" high and 6" diameter. It's bigger than a typical sugar jar but much smaller than a wastebasket. It has a lid with holes and a charcoal filter inside to control odors. It's being sold as a place to keep fruit peelings and the like before transporting them outside to a compost pile. It's supposed to look like a white porcelain version of a garbage can, in case you are charmed to have a white garbage can on your kitchen counter. The same or a similar product appears to be sold under the names Pinzon, Norpro, RSVP.
This is the sort of item which is designed by some marketing person, then made and sold without ever have been tested in practice. Families who compost tend to have at least four members and be inclined towards fruits and vegetables - so the volume of stuff they generate for composting would fill up this container very quickly. Also, there is an annoying design flaw; the inside bottom has a deep cleft which is difficult to clean and slow to dry after being washed. Which would have been discovered immediately if the people who produce this ever actually tried it in their own home. To put out a consumer product without testing it - I hate it when that happens.
Before buying, go to the the Norpro version on Amazon and see the 83 reviews, which are evenly distributed from "Just what I needed" to "Too small, too fragile, rather have a stainless version."
If not for the fact that it's absurdly small, can't be cleaned easily, and is quite fragile, it might have been good for composting. In the meantime, this size of container is useful - I just made a huge batch of granola and filled up my new mini- garbage can with it!

(More customer reviews)Attractive, durable, very good quality mesh bin. The shape makes good sense for an under the desk trash bin. The bin is lower in front so it's easy to toss something in without banging your fingers on it.
The mesh is slightly flexible but not enough to easily dent like some mesh does. It has four little round/flat cushions on the bottom so it's quiet and doesn't scrape the floor. I wish it were a bit slimmer - 8 inches wide would be perfect (it's 9.5 inches at widest point across top). I't not huge but a little bigger than I need.

The lid is designed so when you release your foot off the pedal it slowly and silently closes (no slamming lid while baby is going back to sleep.) there is also a metal liner inside. I use this with the planet wise washable cloth liners. this allows me to simply remove the cloth liner and dump the whole thing in the washer without having to touch any of the soiled items. it is smaller than i expected, but this is perfect as it fills in perfect time to do a wash. I chose metal for my hamper as it is non porous as plastic is and does not soak op the odors from the diapers.. In the future this can also be used as a trash can in any other room. it is so well made, I am sure we will have it for years to come.
