I line the can with a plastic bag incase of spills inside and then put in a brown paper bag that I get for free while bringing home my groceries; the brown paper bag gets thrown out and the plastic gets trashed when it's soiled (I can't get over the idea of buying plastic trash bags just to throw them away after one use). I haven't found another trash can the right size and shape to hold the paper bag. Plus the top is flat, allowing a bowl of grapes or crackers for my toddlers to snack on; it's the perfect height for them.
I've never been a fan of the foot lever trash cans because I've not seen any that haven't broken quickly or worked properly. This can opens by pressing a latch with your hand or, for me (which is convenient when my hands are full), by pressing with my knee.
Our family of four takes about a week to fill this trash can (we recycle), so it is definitely not too small. And when needed, I can wash it in the kitchen sink easily. Anything bigger I'd have to go outside with the hose (but then it would never get washed in the winter!-yuck!). It is absolutely the perfect size.
