(More customer reviews)I don't use this for grass bags - I use it to hold up bags that we get from the post office - we have a lot of mail. It works great for my use. Easy to remove full bags and easy to load the next bag on the rack. It holds the bags at the right height. The unit is light weight and easy to work with. I'm not sure if the metal is strong enough for grass clippings. I would probably be fine 95% of the time, but I think it would bend if handled roughly. I am very careful with it.

(More customer reviews)I first fell in love with this at a friend's house. I couldn't believe how easily it opened! My toe had just barely touched the foot pedal. WOW. I didn't have to turn my foot to the side to get enough pressure to push on the pedal.
My friend told me all about the can, and it was on the top of my Christmas list. Yes, a trash can. But not any trash can, a $100 trash can! My friends thought I was nuts. But my dear husband made my dreams come true, and purchased the can for me.
I've now had it 8 mos. and am thrilled with it. Here's what I LOVE:
- There is a little shelf for the inner liner can to rest upon. This helps you take out the trash bag and put a new one in. NICE feature.
- There is no metal handle to get in the way of the trash bag. You know...the one that always tugs & rips the bag.
- The bag releases & comes out easily.
- You don't see the the trash bag from the outside of the can. It doesn't hang over the edge, but tucks neatly inside.
It's now August 2008, and we've had our first problem. The plastic loops on the lid (for the L shaped rod to go through) both have broken, which means that the lid doesn't open by pushing on the foot pedal. I called up SimpleHuman, told them my problem, and had a new lid sent to me at no charge. I received it within a week of my phone call. Excellent customer servcie.

(More customer reviews)There is no doubt that these cans look great; they are sleek and modern looking, and don't take up a lot of space. However, I would not recommend them if they are going to be used in any area with foot traffic. The sensor device that opens the cans picks up virtually every movement, so whenever you walk by them, they open. And the noise of them opening and closing repeatedly is grating (not to mention a waste of battery life). Although they can be turned off completely, there is no way to turn off the automatic open/close sensor function, so either they are completely off, and useless, or on sensor mode, and annoying. It would have been nice if they could be placed in a mode where they are opened and closed manually with the on/off button (although even if such a function existed, it would be a bit impractical to have to push a button if you have trash or recycling in your hands). They can be opened (and left open) manually with the push of a button, which is okay, I suppose, if you don't mind leaving your trash cans open all the time. I am sorry I didn't just order pedal cans, which I think, in hindsight, would have made much more sense. One final point: It is a plus that they use standard trash bags (a lot of stainless steel cans require special bags), but I found the bag holder ring to be useless. 13-gallon bags stay in well enough without the rings, but if you use the rings as the directions indicate, you have to push the ring almost halfway down the length of the can, causing you to lose a lot of room you would otherwise have in the bag.
