Hefty Renew Tall Kitchen Bags, 13 Gallon, 45-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

(More customer reviews)We have a 45-pack of these. They are grey plastic, 13G (49L), recycled plastic, tall kitchen trash bags.
They tear.
The body of them isn't TOO bad. Worse than average, but it's tolerable.
The real problem is around the top. There's an embedded drawstring, and about 1/2 inch down from there, the bags always tear.
If I hold it by a quarter of the rim (big hands, bunched up) or spread out, they tear.
If I hold the trash bag up in order to wiggle the trash so it spreads out and the bag can close, the rim tears off.
If I use the drawstrings to close the bag, the rim tears off.
Then, trying to re-tie below the tear, one out of 5 times the bags tear again. I've had bags tear trying to double-bag over the top.
These are the worst bags I have ever used in 35 years. They give a bad name to recycled goods and a bad name to Hefty brand.
Seriously, buy some other type of bag. Anything else but these. They are frustrating and can lead to mess because they tear.
UPDATE
We contacted customer service and they apologized. They asked for the box and a few of the problem bags to send to the product manager. In exchange, they sent us reimbursement for postage plus several coupons for free hefty products.
We went ahead and used up the rest of the roll so as not to waste, and when we got to the last third of the roll, things got better.
It's most likely we got a bad batch, but we've since used Steel-Sak and the non-recycled white plastic bags with decent results.

(More customer reviews)I bought this five years ago merely because I needed a covered wastebasket for my kitchen. I was unaware of the cleverness of the tilt-top mechanism it employed. But a day later I marveled at its niftiness. It has these advantages over the old foot-pedal style of kitchen garbage pail:
1. Opening the lid requires no skill, unlike a foot-pedal, which is a smaller and more distant target.
2. Opening the lid places ones hand inside the top of the bucket, making it impossible for a fluttery item like a piece of paper towel to drift off-target after it has been released.
3. The lid closes itself noiselessly, unlike the crash of a foot-pedal can's.
4. The lid stays open once raised to its fully upright and locked position.
5. The lid's greater height means cats & dogs are less likely to nose around its rim.
6. Clean-up is simpler, primarily because of the lid's removability.
7. Its plastic construction and simpler mechanics mean there's no chance of it rusting or needing lubrication.
8. It is the exact shape of a grocery store's large paper bag.
I bet I'll think of more advantages after I've posted this. I can't think of any drawbacks.

(More customer reviews)I ordered three of these. They stack up just fine--they have never knocked over once, although we do keep them in a closet against the wall.
Each bin accomodates a whole mess of milk cartons, wine bottles, aluminum cans, etc. They are easy to carry to the recycling bin and then easy to rinse off (if necessary) in the sink. I think this is a fine product.

(More customer reviews)These bags are plain old plastic with a chemical catalyst (heavy metals like Cobalt and Lead) that are supposed to help the plastic break down...into millions of pieces of plastic. This is not biodegradation.
These do not meet the ASTM 6400-99 specification for biodegradability. They do not meet the California requirement for use of the term biodegradable.
Buyer beware.

Household Essentials 5601 Resin Wicker Hamper Review

It looks nice against the wall near the bathroom (I live in NYC, so my bathroom is too small to actually have the hamper inside of it), came already assembled, and stores my dirty clothes.
I do have two minor issues with it however...
1) It smells a little funny. This is probably the wicker construction yes, I'm aware, I just thought I'd mention it. It doesn't smell BAD mind you, just a little funny. Wicker-like, I suppose.
2) The lid is not removeable. It has a velcro seal to close it, which is nice, and you can't lose the lid then, but it also means I can't line the hamper with a laundry bag because it can only go around the edges for the front half of the unit, and putting weight inside the bag (clothes) without the back half hanging outside the edges makes the laundry bag sink in. That's not ideal.
Other than that, again, it's a hamper. It looks nice, and my dirty clothes seem to be happy inside it.
Also, for those who may be curious, the hamper is made in China.
