I was looking for something to sort recycling, trash, and "food waste" in one place (my city does 3 trash bins outside for those categories), but this isn't practical. Oops.

Almost all the trashcans we looked at were stainless steel and we didn't want that because it wouldn't match our decor and we didn't want dog nose prints to show. This trashcan has been great. We have had several compliments and it's wonderful to have a can with a lid. The trashcan seems durable and I hope it will hold up.

I love how there is an inside liner that comes out so you don't have bag overhang! It is very durable. The lid stays open when you want it to, and works even when it is right up against the wall! (More customer reviews)I had high hopes for this trash can, but am pretty unimpressed. The lid often does not open when you wave your hand in front of it, so I have to press the "open" button, while wet garbage drips onto the lid. Also, the lid does not close tightly (it just sits on top), so the smell of the trash escapes into the room.
I do like the concept of having trash and recycling, though, and I think the bins are large enough. It just needs to work better.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this 21 gallon trash can in August of 2009 for our new home and it is still going strong. Also purchased two 13 gallon infrared trash cans for the bathrooms. All three have with stood my two grandboys who, unfortunetly, love to bang the lids shut.
I saw one other review that gave this a negative. Sorry to see they were not capable of going farther down the page to read the actual product description that it has a 21 gallon capacity. No need to slam a product because not everything you need to know is in the title. Learn to research your products.
I actually paid less for an automated stainless steel trash can than I would have for a regular stainless steel trash can.
Comes in very handy when your hands are full or very dirty. I would highly recommend this product.
