(More customer reviews)The fist time I tried to pickup the plastic insert/bucket the handle pulled off and now continuously does so. The bamboo is coming apart at the seems. Not what I would expect for $50. This compost pail would not be a bad deal if it were $20, but for almost $50 the quality just isn't there. I'm thinking about retuning it.

(More customer reviews)I'd venture to guess that anyone giving this product a 5-star review hasn't owned it for very long. While it is beautiful to look at, and bamboo is one of Earth's most renewable natural resources, this pail is a waste of money. It is composed of narrow strips of bamboo glued together, meaning there are plenty of seams just waiting to burst. For my pail, that took about two months of light use. Suddenly, one of the seams separated, and it's extremely difficult to glue back together properly. Also, the plastic holding the charcoal filter against the bottom of the lid broke free after about two or three weeks, so every time I lift the lid, the filter falls out.
In this instance, bamboo is not the better choice. Do yourself a favor and buy stainless steel. What good is a renewable resource if it winds up in the landfill after minimal use?

(More customer reviews)The double filters work great with the endurance Compost Pail. There are no odors from our kitchen scraps which is key. The only negative is that although I don't smell anything from the pail, the fruit flies do. The pail still attracts fruit flies in the summer months. I don't know that they can actually get in past the filters but they try. And I don't know if there is a way around this issue.
