(More customer reviews)I used to have literally hundreds of plastic grocery bags in my kitchen, stuffed into an even bigger grocery bag. (I use about a bag a day to collect and dispose of the waste in my cats' litter box.) I have been upgrading my kitchen and apartment, and decided I needed a more streamlined, attractive way to deal with the bags.
I was optimistic about this device, but it's not a perfect solution. I didn't count the bags I put in, but it does seem to hold a lot. However, I haven't yet determined the best way to insert the bags so that when I pull one out of the dispenser, I don't end up with several at a time. Also, taking out a bag is not always simple -- sometimes a bag comes out easily, other times I really have to wrestle with it.
In addition, my bag holder arrived partially disassembled. There are three main parts to the holder -- the black plastic bottom, the black plastic top piece, and the rounded stainless steel sides. One of the tabs that ensured that the black top was securely installed was not popped in -- consequently, the steel sides were not held in place by the top, so sharp edges were exposed. And they are sharp!
Fortunately, I was able to unscrew the black top, reinstall it so all the tabs were in place, and squeeze the metal sides back into place so the edges were covered. However, remedying this was a rather unpleasant experience, although I am pleased that it was remedy-able at all!
Overall, a good solution, but not a great one.

Cabinet Mount Trash System Review

(More customer reviews)Firstly, this is a great trash can. It looks nice, is built well, and it is a great way to get rid of those nasty grocery bags. The arms that you wrap the bag handles around really hold the bags in place. I have never been able to stuff so much trash into old grocery bags as you can with this device.
Now that being said, the unit is a bit large. You need quite a bit of space under your cabinet for this thing to work. We actually have to open the second door slightly in order to reclose the cabinet door but it is something that we are willing to live with in order to hide our trash can under the counter and recycle those bags.
I don't know why, but I thought that this thing was an over the door type install like a different (cheaper) model sold on Amazon. There was nothing in the pictures or literature to make me think this, but for some reason I did. This was a slight problem for me and it could be for other users. In order for the bin to work properly, it must be installed about 2.5 inches from the edge of the door. Since the screw holes are about 2.5 inches further in, that meant that I needed to put screw holes about 5 inches from the inside of my cabinet and about 8 inches from the top of my cabinet door for the top set of holes. There is a lower set of holes about 6 inches below that. For me, and others who have cheaper cabinet doors, that meant the holes were to go through a flimsy piece of 1/16" plywood. Needless to say, the screw would have stuck out of the front of the cabinet by all most 3/4". We went to the hardware store and bought a cheap piece of pine molding, about .5"X 36", cut it in half and screwed these to the cabinet frame where the screws would land (the frame around the cabinet is closer to 3/4" thick). And it works great. The extra trouble was definitely worth the convenience. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone who has the room under their sink to put it in.
I'm also going to plead with Simple Human to make an over the cabinet door install for those of us who may get in trouble with a land lord for drilling into cabinet doors.

This was the perfect size to fit under the sink (with the waste disposal occupying a lot of space) and still be able to close the cabinet door. I made a makeshift cover (to keep the odors in) with a piece of cardboard wrapped in sticky shelf-liner, and it works purrrrfectly!!

(More customer reviews)I truly like the suggestion from one reviewer, who says his wife instead uses old tissue boxes to hold their clutter of plastic bags. This item is almost exactly that, but a bit more elegant for the kitchen, and with more room for the bags as well as a convenient stuffing hole at the top. I also agree that it is a bit pricey for what it is, but admit that for it's look, construction, and functionality I would expect to pay exactly the $10 that it costs (it is pricier in stores and other websites than at Amazon.com). For the reviewers who's only complaint is that it is impossible to pull just one bag from this dispenser, I suggest the ritual I learned from my father (an engineer - the man has a practical ritual for everything). First, check the plastic bag for holes - no use keeping one that has holes, as they're easily recyclable at any grocery store. Then take the bag in one hand at the bottom of the bag and grip it in your fist. Wrap the bag around your fist like an ace bandage, letting any air out of the top as you wrap. Voila, the bag is not a wadded mess, but rather neatly wadded like, say, a sock. Stuff each bag in the hole this way, and they will easily pull out without tangling with other contained bags.
