(More customer reviews)We had one of these and our grand daughter thought the pedal action was a toy and yes she managed to break it by constant playing. If you have a 5 year old you understand.
That said, when it was broken and we had to wait to get a replacement we realized how handy that step lid is for freeing up your hands to get rid of trash, scrape dinner plates, etc. It really makes a difference and we just can't go back to another type of refuse can.
It actually is decent looking in the kitchen and as a bonus the tight fitting lid (around a plastic kitchen trash bag) locks out the odors.
It is a really nice trash can, if there is such a thing! :)
